Ruti Baratson

Ruti is till today a volunteer at the Palmach museum.  As a Palmach member she remembers she was in the 9th batallion in the Negev. Sitting with her friends in an open truck Egyptian planes flew over them, she jumped out to reach and hide in a ditch. Meanwhile on both sides, like in the movies, shots were following her while she was running for cover… She was 17 with very long pigtails, a kid.

Those pigtails have known also better times. At a dancing evening for the pilots, she and her friends from the infantry ‘crashed’ the party. When she heard a song she liked, she tried to stand up to go dance but she couldnt, one of her pigtails seemed stuck… stuck to the belt of the young guy sitting next to her… They tied the knod and got married not long after…
