Sara Basal Aminoff

Born in Jerusalem in 1940.

Sara came from a very big religious family in Iran. Her great grandfather who was the local Rabi was forced, like the whole community to convert (to stay alive) and wear Muslim dress. The community kept shops open on shabat but found all different ways to not break the shabat, teenage boys would tell the clients their father was out and to come back later. Her great grandfather even made Hadj to go along with the sharade and keep himself, his family and Community safe. On his way back from Mekka he stopped in Jerusalem and bought land. And the family planned their move early 1930’s. Sara’s father always voted Misrachi till 1948 but once the Independence was called he gave his vote to the opposite party Mapai. Because “First there is G’d and than there is Ben Gurion”
